Patent Translation and Industrial Property German → Spanish

Patent translation is legal, technical and linguistic work all at once. A single inaccurately rendered term in a claim can shift the scope of protection or open the door to later challenges. I translate patents from German, English and French into Spanish — with legal training, technical experience and many years of practice with Spanish and European patent files.

What I translate patents for

  • Validation in Spain of European patents via the OEPM (Oficina Española de Patentes y Marcas)
  • Applications before the OEPM and before the patent offices of Latin American countries
  • Patent disputes, opposition proceedings and arbitrations
  • Correspondence between patent attorneys in Germany and Spain

Documents I translate

  • Full patent specifications — description, claims, drawing texts, abstract
  • Sets of claims for validation in Spain
  • Search and examination reports
  • Opposition statements and observations in EPO proceedings
  • Licence and cooperation agreements
  • Trademark applications and oppositions

Language combinations

I translate into Spanish from German, English and French. For translations into German, I work with a sworn colleague where required.

Experience and background

My experience with industrial property predates my law studies: from 1995 to 1998 I worked as an assistant at a Madrid patent firm. For over 20 years I have been working with Spanish patent attorneys and am familiar with the formal requirements of the OEPM.

Confidentiality

Patents are inherently confidential until publication. Documents are exchanged via secure channels. On request, I sign a non-disclosure agreement (NDA) before any files are transmitted.
