Sworn Interpreter for Notaries in Leipzig and Saxony
A notary interpreter conveys, during the signing, the content of the deed from German into the other language so that the Spanish-speaking party can follow the proceedings, ask questions and sign with full knowledge of the content. I am a sworn interpreter for Spanish at the OLG Dresden — since 2011 — and work with notaries and their clients in Leipzig, Dresden, Chemnitz, Halle and the surrounding region.
When do you need an interpreter at the notary?
Where one of the parties does not have a sufficient command of German, the German Notarisation Act (Beurkundungsgesetz, § 16 BeurkG) requires the involvement of an interpreter.
Deeds I regularly work on
- Real estate sale contracts and condominium acquisitions
- Marriage contracts and agreements on matrimonial property regimes
- Inheritance agreements, wills and renunciations of inheritance
- Deeds of gift
- Company formations, amendments to articles of association and share transfers
- General powers of attorney and advance directives
- Acknowledgements of paternity and other family law declarations
How the cooperation works
I receive the draft deed from the notary’s office in advance — treated confidentially and used solely for preparation. Before the signing, I walk the Spanish-speaking party through the planned procedure and the main terms. During the signing I interpret consecutively. For short, clearly structured deeds, whispered interpretation (chuchotage) is also possible.
Translation of the deed
A written translation of the entire deed into Spanish is not legally required, but in many cases advisable. For sworn translations into German, I work together with a sworn colleague.
